We brought our musical year to a close with a carol singing session at East Putney tube station on 14th December and another at Wandsworth Town railway station on 19th December, both to raise money for our chosen charity Regenerate Rise.
Regenerate Rise, who’ve been the focus of our fundraising activities for many years, work to alleviate the isolation often felt by the elderly and arrange lunches, outings, activities, support, outreach and visits. You can learn more here.
Doing a little more work for the isolated elderly, we can be spotted at a FISH Neighbourhood Care Sing-Along taking place lunchtime on Friday 4th January at Barnes Green Centre. Details about the event are here .
As 2018 draws to a close, we’d like to wish everyone the best over the festive season and a Happy New Year!
The start of December saw us kicking off the festive season with a weekend of festivities.
Our official Christmas Concert was held on 1st December at St Mary’s Church Putney with us all in fine voice. One audience member even confessed our rendition of “O Holy Night” brought a tear to her eye…
A haunting rendition of “The Coventry Carol” was given by an ensemble and another small group performed a touching “Mary’s Boy Child”. Whilst our very own Kirsten Borkowska enchanted all with her solo, “Let It Go” from the film “Frozen”.
Friday had seen us in a more casual mood “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree(s)” at St Margaret’s Putney Christmas Tree Festival. Stretching through to Sunday the festival promised a weekend of Wine Tasting, Festive Stalls, Afternoon Tea, a BBQ, Santa’s Grotto and a Toy Service.
For anyone unable to make the festivities but still interested in purchasing Christmas trees please do feel free to get in touch with Joanna Beadsley at email@example.com
For many years the Doverhouse Singers have joined with the students and staff of Linden Lodge to share some bonhomie together over the festive season. This year’s gathering saw us once more singing with some familiar and some new faces.
On Tuesday evening the students and staff provided a welcoming and interactive audience as always. Tried and tested favourites Jingle Bells, Deck the Hall and We Wish You A Merry Christmas proved to be the most enjoyed by the students.
Linden Lodge is a day and weekly boarding school in Wandsworth whose specialist area of work is addressing sensory and physical difficulties. More information about them can be found at www.lindenlodge.wandsworth.sch.uk
For Halloween we combined a run-through of our upcoming concert with drinks and nibbles. With some devils, a skull bearer and a black cat amongst us, it was inevitable our performance would fall short of angelic. But, with a little spirit help, for once, our Fairytale of New York was spot on.
A more sober version of our concert can be seen 7.00 pm at St Mary’s Church, Putney on Saturday 1st December.
Anyone interested in joining our activities ahead to jolly us through the festive season can check our schedule here.
Saturday 6th October saw us and members of The Sunflower Cafe come together to put a little joy into a wet and windy afternoon. With a little help from their friends everyone packed up their troubles and all had a thoroughly pleasant time singing in the rain.
The Sunflower Cafe meets monthly so those with Dementia and their companions can come together for support and fun experiences. More can be found out about them here.
Anyone wanting to join the wonderful world of The Doverhouse Singers to be able to take part in events like this and the many other super activities we get involved with can find more information here.
We’ll soon be returning from our summer break and hope you can join us!
The beginning of a new term is a great time to start, with lots of new and familiar faces gathering to start learn new songs together for the next concert.
If you’ve wondered about joining a choir or are simply looking for a fun way to spend Wednesday evenings, please come along!

Our summer concert took place last weekend in Putney and it’s safe to say it was our best yet. Thanks to everyone that came along – especially our guests from Regenerate Rise, the charity we support. And a big thanks to everyone that donated raffle prizes.
We’re taking a summer break and will be back on Wednesday 5th September – we hope to see you then!
